Cracked Tooth 101

If you have a cracked tooth, it can be confusing to know what to do. If you get a scrape or scratch in your skin, it will form a scab and heal itself. A cracked tooth is not like your skin. Cracked teeth do not heal themselves; in fact, they often get progressively worse if left untreated.

Here’s some basic information you need to know about cracked teeth:

  • You can suspect that you have a cracked tooth if you have unexplained pain while you’re eating. You may also be sensitive to cold or warm foods or drinks. You may have tooth pain with no obvious cause. You may have difficulty pinpointing the exact location of your pain.
  • Teeth crack for a variety of reasons. Injury, biting or chewing hard objects, clenching or grinding of teeth are all reasons why your tooth may have cracked.
  • A cracked tooth may get worse over time as the crack may widen.
  • You feel pain when your crack widens and your pulp and inner parts of your tooth become exposed.
  • There are many different types of cracks, and each one can and should be treated differently.
  • Cracks can be seen in different ways. At times, a crack is visible to the naked eye. Other times, a crack can only been seen using an X-ray.

If you suspect that you have a cracked tooth, schedule your appointment with Dr. Vivienne Zhang, DDS at Mendota Springs Dentistry right away. She will provide you with excellent care and precision for repairs to your damaged teeth so that their health is restored and you are free from pain.

Taking The Scares Out of October

What is it about the month of October? Every corner you turn there’s someone waiting to trick or scare you or your child! The masks, the decorations, and the tricksters all have one goal in mind: To scare! Is your family into haunted houses, or do you stay as far away as possible?

At Mendota Springs Dentistry, we’ve done everything to create a calm, peaceful and scare-free place for every member of your family. Our children’s dentistry is one area that we pay special time and attention to create this peaceful atmosphere. We know that your child does not want to feel anxiety or fear when they are at the dental office. We also acknowledge some patients allow fear to prevent them from getting the necessary dental procedures and treatments that they need.

Mendota Springs Dentistry offers a wide variety of amenities that are focused on creating an environment that will give peace and enjoyment to your children.

  • Children’s play area
  • Netflix
  • Wireless Headphones
  • Blankets and Pillows
  • Computers
  • Flat Screen TVs in Patient’s Rooms
  • Music

For some patients, sedation dentistry may be required. We offer Nitrous Oxide, also known as “laughing gas” to help patients fully relax and be comfortable during appointments. This is a great option for adults or children who have fears, special needs or medical issues that make it difficult to receive dental care.

Book your children’s dentistry appointment with Mendota Springs Dentistry this fall. Come in and experience a calm and peaceful dental appointment for you and your child.
