Fitchburg Dental Implants
A dental implant is a completely natural-looking way to restore your smile if you’re missing one or more of your permanent teeth. Unlike other restorative treatments like dental bridges and full or partial dentures, implants can last a lifetime and they don’t require any special care beyond brushing and flossing. At Mendota Springs Dentistry, both Dr. Zhang and Dr. Jacoby are highly experienced with modern implant dentistry techniques.
What Is A Dental Implant?
Dental implants consist of two parts; an implant, and an implant-supported restoration. The implant itself is a small, titanium post that is surgically inserted into your gum and jaw, where it takes the place of your missing tooth’s root. Then, it bonds permanently with the surrounding tissue to provide a stable base upon which an implant-supported restoration can be permanently placed to restore your smile.
Benefits of Dental Implants
Dental implants are a permanent solution for missing teeth, and they can last a lifetime with proper oral care. The durability of dental implants is a major advantage, and makes them a good solution for patients missing one or more teeth. Since they are surgically inserted into your jawbone and they are made to mimic a tooth root, they look and feel natural, and you won’t have to worry about removing them to eat or sleep. If you have missing teeth and are looking for an ideal replacement solution, call Dr. Zhang at Mendota Springs Dentistry today!
How Are Dental Implants Placed?
The process of placing a dental implant takes only a single appointment. After Dr. Zhang or Dr. Jacoby has approved you for a dental implant, they will examine your mouth and take x-rays to create a custom-tailored implant placement strategy. Your mouth will be thoroughly cleaned and numbed, and the dental implant will be placed into the proper position. After this, the area is cleaned and disinfected again, and a temporary crown will be placed to protect the implant while it heals. The healing process takes about 3-6 months or longer, for most patients. Once your implant has healed, Dr. Zhang or Dr. Jacoby will permanently place your implant-supported restoration to complete the procedure.
What Is An Implant-Supported Restoration?
Dental implants can support a number of different restorations. The most common options include: Dental crowns – A dental crown is built and shaped to perfectly imitate the natural appearance of your existing teeth, and used to replace a single missing tooth. This is, by far, the most common type of restoration. In fact, among many people, the term “dental implant” has become synonymous with a dental implant that is completed with a single porcelain dental crown. Dental bridges – Two dental implants can be used to support a dental bridge. This is a good way to replace several missing teeth, if there are no healthy teeth which can be used for a traditional dental bridge. Implant-supported dentures – Using 4-6 dental implants, a permanent set of dentures can be placed in the mouth, replacing the upper arch, lower arch, or both arches of teeth.
